My heart wrung out.
We have a guy at work who Ive known for 7 years who has been doing things like mail runs and photocopying. He's really good on the fang and we have to watch him because he goes through the fridge and eats peoples lunches. He also has been hospitalized for eating 3 morning teas, lunch and then 3 afternoon teas as well as his dinner when he got home from work. (I'm wondering who is watching me...) About a week ago I noticed him fill up the photocopier, then the next day he was going though the draws in my teams area and I asked him what he wanted and he said scissors, so I showed him where I keep mine and said you come here any time and get these scissors when ever you want. Well I forgot to put the scissors back there and he couldn't find them and he got sprung looking through the teams draws again. Nothing much happened because I walked in just in time and got my scissors and gave them to him. So yesterday I thought about what it means to me that he fills the photocopier up and how much I appreciate him doing that because its usually me who does it. I fired of an email to his EL2 and said that probably no one else has noticed the added service we have been receiving but I have and I want to say how much I appreciate Gareth refilling the paper. Sure enough back comes the thank you email and asking for more feedback on other things he might be able to do. So I asked to meet with her and said that if Gareth had a little plastic pocket that could attach to his belt with a pair of scissors in it he would be able to cut the plastic strips on the boxes with out going through peoples draws looking for scissors and having a meltdown when something doesn't go as planned. As we talked on she said you know he is my best employee...., punctual, does EXACTLY as asked, comes to work every day and while all the others out there are back biting and shafting each other there is Garth with his clear, transparent and true heart - and no one will take him on. When I piped up and said yeah, you've got blood and guts going all over the floor outside your door and there is Gareth with his Autistic Heart, THE LAST OFFICER STANDING, we both laughed and then went quiet on the verge of crying us two, coz we all know that a true heart is hard to find.
