My Ironing Career Zine

Its taken me a while to work out how to fit my zines into something presentable. Very pleased with the outcome and really enjoyed using the Typewriter to do the title and dedication. Left the cotton hanging on each end because it adds to the story.

Cyclone Carlos

Here are some of the comments from my dad about the cyclone.

  • "I slept all the way through it and didn't hear a thing"
  • "Valmai is just getting the newspaper out of the oven" (she had it in there drying out)
  • "Mosquitoes don't operate in the rain coz the rain drops know them down"
This bloke need to write a book or a zine.....

Big W Canvas

Recently Big W had 1/2 priced canvases and I took a photo of my watercolour and uploaded it to the software. This is the result, which I am really pleased with.

Minis

On a mission to fill up my story board. Ive decided that I will also include items of significance which will have very ordered framing as opposed to the random play ones to give it some texture.

There are two really interesting episodes of ARTSCAPE on ABC IView at the moment. The first episode is about the Tiwi Island "Sister Girls" and Bindi Coles project to capture them on film.

Multicultural Festival

Things I notice that were different this year -

  • Not one smoker
  • Twin prams and babies being pushed around by women that looked 50+
  • Two artists painting live and selling their art on site - Awesome!!!

Being Brave

A bloke at work rang me a couple of days ago about meditation class we have on Tuesdays, saying he wanted to come but hes scared of trying new things. Ive known him for about 6 years and guessed he suffered depression at various times. Not that you would know but he wears a Beyond Blue band occasionally. I offered him to come today and it be just me and him and he turned up. He said "sorry I chickened out yesterday" I told him I don't see it like that but he was being brave. This is how being brave looks to me.

Hunderwasser Kids

Today I finished my first commission and it was emotional and satisfying. It took me to the next level in quality and in exploring a new culture. I made them for my friend Angelika. Think its raised my self esteem a peg or two.

Underwater Hockey - WT?

I was oblivious to this sport until tonight when the under water hockey players joined me in the pool. I had no idea that there was a game going on below me until I got out. I was doing my laps and all these people kept getting into the pool with their head gear on and flippers and disappearing. By the amount of bags being dumped around I should have twigged. But oh no, Id managed to complete all my exercise although I did end up with a few gob fulls of water coz it was really choppy and people were swimming around on the bottom of the pool, which really intrigued me as it looks so poetic with all the curvy movements they were doing. Some of them were breaching right in front of me which made me cranky but I was determined to finish the full 30 laps. When I finished a man who put on his cozy right next to me then sat down to put on his flippers. I asked him "whats with all the head gear ? he said "we have an underwater hockey game underway at the moment and you have been swimming right through the middle of it doing your laps. Whoops!!! I thought he was shitting me and he said its an olympic sport handed me a large face mask and said go down and check it out... Alrighty then!!!

Mrs Shep

I have an online artist friend named Mrs Shep and we have become good mates. I love her work which Simmone had seen a couple of years ago and brought me the three badges in the picture here. Yesterday I received this beautiful original piece of art work from Mrs Shep and she is so beautiful, I'm getting her framed. There is alot of detail in the drawing and splashes of watercolour. Thank you Mrs Shep! Here is her blogspot where you can see other stunning artwork. http://mrsshepherdlikestea.blogspot.com

Synchronicity

This text from "Waking Your Dreams" by Emma Mellon,Ph.D.

A Synchronicity is a meaningful coincidence. An event in the psyche seems to burst out of the imaginal world and appear in the normal flow of rational existence. An inner event connects with an outer event. A synchronicity confirms that what is going on inside us is one with what is happening outside us. The veil between the imaginal world and the world of matter lifts and unity is clear. Synchronicities are not magic. They are the normal elbowing of one realm up against the other, moments of feeling at home in a much larger context than we usually perceive. They usually occur when an individual is experiencing a significant development phase or a period of in tense emotion. The unconscious image can come in an idea, a premonition or a dream.

This is something I am currently experiencing with my art life. Its always a beautiful surprise when it happens.
